Title: Basic Baked Apple

4lgBaking apples (Rome, Cortland, or Winesap)
1/2cWater
1/2cApple juice

Preheat oven to 350ø. Wash apples and core from stem end to within « inch of bottom. With a vegetable peeler, remove skin from top half of apple, working around rather than up-and-down. Place apples, peeled end up, in 8-inch square baking dish with water and juice. Cover with aluminum foil and bake 30 to 50 minutes or until tender, basting occasionally with cooking juices. Remove from oven and baste one last time. Serve warm or chilled. MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: Place prepared apples in microwave-safe dish. Use only ¬ cup water and ¬ cup juice. Cover with plastic wrap, venting back one corner. (DO NOT cover with aluminum foil.) Microwave on HIGH until apples are tender, approximately 10 to 14 minutes. FOR BIGGER BABIES (over 10 months): Remove skin and mash apple with a fork. VARIATIONS: Before baking, fill the apple cavity with one or more of the following:
